


Bangla Academy has translated ten songs of his in The English languag. Karim wrote lots of spiritual songs including Marfati or Dehatatta. He got inspiration from another legendary musician Fakir Lalon Shah. Karim portraits Bhati area’s people love, wish and happiness amid the writings. He holds voice against Unfair, injustice, prejudice and communalism through his writings. Shah Abdul Karim wrote more than 1500 songs in career and composed the songs. He has a son named Shah Nur Jalal, he is also a singer. He mostly got inspiration from his wife Altafbunessa, whom he affectionately called Sarola. Karim was passionate about music from early childhood and started research in singing and writing even though being a little literate. Karim used to spend his labor in agriculture field for livelihood, but nothing did can stop him from creating music.

The legendary musician grew up amid in the financial crisis and faced struggle from early childhood. Shah Abdul Karim was born on February 15, 1916, in remote area Ujan Dhol village, Derai, Sunamganj. He won Ekushey Padak in 2001 for his outstanding song writings. Before death, he wrote more than 1500 songs, that is a rare case in the life of a musician. Abdul Karim is famous in the remote village area for the very long time but gets popularity in city area only a few years ago when some newcomer singer established themselves by singing his song. He is very popular musician around the country, especially in the Bhati area. Shah Abdul Karim is a legendary Baul musician in Bangladesh. He visited the US, France, UK and India and enthralled music lovers there.He was awarded the Ekushey award in 2011.Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor expressed deep shock at the death of the singer.He conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family.I am fortunate! met the Baul legend Shah Abdul Karim in the last moment of his life, during his treatment period in 2009 at Noorjahan hospital, Sylhet nearby Hazrat Shah Jalal Mazar.
